Breast Lift

Purpose

To restore the young projection of ptotic breasts.

Details

Breast ptosis may occur with age. Atrophy following cessation of breast feeding may sometimes cause ptosis.

A number of techniques are available to achieve correction of ptotic breasts, often involving various designs of tailoring of the breast skin envelope. Occasionally a mild degree of ptosis can be alleviated by the insertion of breast implants. The exact choice of technique is dependant on the degree of ptosis and your doctor will explain to you the choice and the reason for it.

Markings are often made pre-operatively on the skin.

There will be incisions on the breast. Generally the more severe the degree of ptosis, the longer the incisions are.

Post-operatively some surgeons advise a protective garment to help support the breasts.

Caution

Wounds are sometimes complicated by dehiscence and infection. Mild degrees of asymmetry may occur. Scars are sometimes conspicuous. Ptosis correction is not meant to be permanent.
