Tummy Tuck

Purpose

To reduce bulging tummies resulting from laxity of the abdominal wall and redundant skin.

Details

A long transverse incision is usually made in the lower abdomen above the level of the pubic bone. The skin and fat of the abdomen is undermined and the musculo-aponeurotic layer is strengthened if indicated. The skin and fat layer is then re-draped and any excess is cut away.

Result

An additional vertical scar is sometimes needed. Scars can be thick in certain individuals. The belly button needs to be re-sited.

Caution

Abdominoplasty is not a weight reduction surgery. It only serves to re-contour bulging bellies from abdominal laxity or skin redundancy.
