Breast Reduction

Purpose

To reduce of the size of the breasts in patients with hypertrophy causing symptoms such as back ache and postural changes, and occasionally to achieve symmetry.

Details

Measurements and markings are usually done on the patient's body before the operation.

Cuts are made into the breast so as to remove the intended amount of tissue with a view to preserve a viable nipple-areola. The breast is then stitched back into shape.

Result

Long scars sometimes result from the incisions. Sensation of the nipple-areola could be affected and so might future breast feeding.
