Hand Surgery

Hand surgery is a specialty on its own. Hand problems can be a result of congenital anomalies, trauma, and disease states.

Common conditions that are seen include extra digits, syndactyly, hand injuries of various severities including amputation of the digits and can involve the tendons, nerves and vessels, Dupuytren's contracture and the rheumatoid hand. Burn can sometimes result in bad scar contractures or loss of the fingers. Nerve injury proximal to the hand can also result in hand problems.

The potential patient must discuss with their doctor how a surgical undertaking can benefit them. Cooperation from patients in rehabilitation is an essential part of the treatment.
